Sound advice from a woman who has worked her ass off to earn the distinction of first female head athletic trainer in any of the MLB, NHL, NBA, or NFL institutions. She prides herself on being honest with her recovering athletes and upfront about the table-to-field timeline. When contracts and millions of dollars are on the line, far more goes into the healing process than initially expected. Now the owner and founder of Structure & Function Education [@structureandfunction], guest Sue Falsone [@suefalsone] has utilized her incredible knowledge of biomechanics and her talent for building PT/athlete relationships to reach the masses.
Sue Falsone [@suefalsone][@structureandfunction] sees rehab from multiple perspectives. Having been in the game and working with high level athletes including the Dodgers roster, she knows that getting an injured player back on the field is a complex task. First, her commitment to the athlete's health is paramount, but as an asset to the organization she also must be completely transparent with her diagnosis. How does she navigate this dual role and stay true to both entities? Keep a cool head and remain objective. It's not personal, it's simply her job. Her experiences have provided incredible insight as to how an athlete is psychologically affected by injury, sometimes as a result of being ostracized by coaching staff, other players, or the PT's inability to manage the athlete's psycho-social response.
