In this episode the Crew dials the voicemail to answer a question from a loyal Power Athlete Radio listener:

Long story short: I can’t seem to maintain a healthy long-term regiment. I’ve been in great shape about 5 times in my 38 years. Then I fall off the wagon and get to where I am right now, which is 5’8″ about 228 pounds. I’d like to be near that 200 lbs range bodyweight. I am very muscular, I have a 48″ chest (I max benched 365 in high school.)

I have a “spare tire I can’t get rid of, ever!” I’m a type 1 diabetic and inject insulin into stomach region is why I think that is, no excuses though, I want to get rid of it.

What would be a good re-intro program for me? I’d love to get back into jujitsu, backpacking, cardio has ALWAYS been my weakness I gas out at jujitsu many times a session…. is any dietary advice in your programs also? feel free to call me if I’m not being specific enough. thank you!

The BG’s a little high. Did you bolus?

Waging war on the troublesome spare tire around your mid section with some dialed in training and nutrition is no small task. Now add Type 1 diabetes into the mix, or any autoimmune issue for that matter, and traditional battle plans for getting shredded may not be enough to win the war. This Power Athlete Radio episode takes on a question from a Type 1 Diabetic with big training goals on Jacked Street.

100 years ago, both insulin and Jacked Street had not yet been discovered. In fact, if your body produced no insulin, you would fall victim to what was then called the “wasting disease”. No matter what you ate, and how hard you theoretically trained, you would have literally wasted away to nothing and would eventually die.

But that was then, and this is now. With some dialed in training and nutrition approaches, and with the support from your doctor, you are actually able to reverse the effects of “wasting disease” and fill the sleeves of your favorite t-shirts.
