In this episode the Crew dials the voicemail to answer a question from a loyal Power Athlete Radio listener:

Hey guys, it is Jason and I want to touch on coaching cues. I go to a CrossFit gym and do open gym versus participating in classes. I do my Field Strong programming between classes. I observe these classes and the coaches are on their phones the whole time or not paying attention to people. They shout stupid things like, “up, up, up”, when the person has to stand up. Wanting to get your opinion on cuing and the coaching that is going on here.

Do Less. Do Less. Well, now you’re not doing anything!

Everyone has a gym horror story of seeing human sacrifices under a barbell or unengaged GroupFit-ness coaches scrolling through their phones while blindly shouting the same cue to 15 different pairs of deaf ears. These are the coaches who are thinking, “their knees didn’t drive out the first 15 times, better shout it louder this time”.

That makes total sense… PAUSE NOT!

Communication and connection are two oft neglected components of coaching passed over for a list of magical cues, that when spoken to an athlete should fix the poor movement they display while under stress. Alas, they wont. In this Power Athlete Radio exposé, Luke & Tex explore teaching, coaching, and evaluating movement in way that expands the bandwidth of coaches and trainers so they can effectively communicate, connect, and cue their clients.
