Author / John

48 min listen

In this episode the Crew dials the voicemail to answer a question from a loyal Power Athlete Radio listener:

What’s up, PA Radio? I got a question about 1 Rep Maxes. Is there some type of science behind people able to tap into their ultimate strength to achieve a 1RM? I was wondering just because I am able to hit 1RM’s easier than my girl. She is able to hit 3, 4, 5RM all the time. Just wondering if there is anything to it. Thank you!

The 1 Rep Max. The white rabbit chase, the place at the table, and the ultimate bragging right amongst pals. The efficacy of testing a 1 rep max has been challenged by many. Does the benefit gained from a test outweigh the risk of taking a risk under the bar? Why can female athletes crush 3-5RM, but fall shy of what they should be hitting for a 1? What is the purpose of training 1RM’s but not testing them?

John, Luke, and Tex chase the rabbit into 1RM Wonderland and leave no card unturned showing structural, physiological, and psychological hands this oft misappropriated tool is holding.
