Laura Phelps is one of the most well known names in powerlifting. Her transition from gymnastics, to long distance running, to bodybuilding, and finally powerlifting, makes for a unique origins story in the sport. Smashing records in four weight classes makes and totaling 11x bodyweight is perfectly indicative of her competitive spirit. Although it’s been years since she competed, her love for the sport has not wained in the slightest. Now her roll as coach is to take other women beyond her own records.

What has Laura Phelps been up to since dominating the sport of powerlifting? You guessed it…more powerlifting. She still trains with the same intensity but her competition focus now rests on her female athletes. She is in her 10th year of hosting an all women’s powerlifting meet which sees approximately 140 female competitors. John Welbourn is CEO of Power Athlete and Fuse Move. He is also creator of the online training phenomena, Johnnie WOD. He is a 9 year veteran of the NFL. John was drafted with the 97th pick in 1999 NFL Draft and went on to be a starter for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1999-2003, appearing in 3 NFC Championship games, and for starter for the Kansas City Chiefs from 2004-2007. In 2008, he played with the New England Patriots until an injury ended his season early with him retiring in 2009.
