| Ep 880 – Are You Actually Ready to Train? w/ Joel Jamieson

Author / John

1 Hour 3 Minute Listen

HRV, recovery, and what your body is telling you before you start training.

Most training programs assume you’re the same athlete every time you walk through the door. Same recovery. Same stress. Same readiness. You’re not. Joel Jamieson, founder of Morpheus and 8 Weeks Out, joins me to break down his journey from training fighters to pioneering the use of heart rate variability (HRV) to understand what’s actually happening under the hood.

We dig into the history of HRV, cardiovascular fitness, strength training, genetics, recovery, and why more data doesn’t automatically mean better decisions. Joel also lays out where AI could change health and performance diagnostics, where it falls short, and why technology still needs a human who knows what the hell they’re looking at.

If you want to understand how recovery affects performance and how to use HRV without becoming a slave to your wearable, this one’s worth your time.
