Living up to the name.

This week we are thrilled to host former MMA champ and current Training Director of popular training resource, Gym Jones, Rob MacDonald.  As if being on the 2005-2006 season of The Ultimate Fighter wasn’t noteworthy enough, “Maximus” as he’s known in some circles, jumped headfirst into his passion of strength and conditioning by forging his way with Gym Jones founder, Mark Twight.

Rob knows first hand that when it comes to developing a culture that supports your brand, you trust your instincts and make no apologies.  The crew discusses just how important it is to embody the spirit and ethos of the product, regardless of what it is.  The agreement is unanimous: it’s not possible to learn everything there is to know about a training philosophy in one weekend.  This leads us to our next question, “What’s it like to attend a Gym Jones seminar?”

When you’re a successful business operator like Rob, you have no inhibitions about turning people away that don’t work hard enough.  This is the luxury he maintains and is also the reason he guarantees that in his gym at any given time, someone is working harder than you.

Other points of discussion in this episode include why superfood is marketing bullshit, why Rob’s kid has most test than your average adult male, and what drives Rob to train day in and day out.

Finally, Professor Booty, provides the science to support his recent rebuttal to the “Dad Bod” wave, giving the ultimate “GFY” to proponents of this unhealthy trend.  Could there be a more effective form of shittalking than solid scientific research?  I think not.

John Welbourn is CEO of Power Athlete and Fuse Move. He is also creator of the online training phenomena, Johnnie WOD. He is a 9 year veteran of the NFL. John was drafted with the 97th pick in 1999 NFL Draft and went on to be a starter for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1999-2003, appearing in 3 NFC Championship games, and for starter for the Kansas City Chiefs from 2004-2007. In 2008, he played with the New England Patriots until an injury ended his season early with him retiring in 2009. Over the course of his career, John has started over 100 games and has 10 play-off appearances. He was a four year lettermen while playing football at the University of California at Berkeley. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Rhetoric in 1998. John has worked with the MLB, NFL, NHL, Olympic athletes and Military.     Platek echoed what I’ve been saying for years: people work so so hard to avoid working hard. The cleanses, the smoothies…drives me nuts.
