Training for the truly unknown

This week we welcome back Jay Dawes, PhD [@dawesjay]. Jay keeps plenty busy at the University of Colorado under his current role of Coordinator of Athletic Performance but today we dive into some of the research he is doing as a consultant for the Colorado State Patrol.

He has been working in conjunction with Trooper Charlie Kornhauser who heads the physical training at the academy. The collaboration has led to some interesting findings about the status of police and trooper preparedness as well as what “fitness” really means in a line of work with a vast set of demands.

To say that creating the perfect training program for our brothers and sisters in blue is a difficult task is an understatement. Hear how Dawes and Kornhauser embrace the challenge, one class of cadets at a time.

EMPOWER YOUR PERFORMANCE.

Probably the best way to learn more about Dr. Dawes is to head to www.elitesportsuniversity.com and sort through Jay’s amazing coaching and research findings.  Additionally, if you’re in the CO area and looking for a career in law enforcement or you’re currently working the field and want to see what Charlie has been doing with the sate patrol, head to Colorado.gov and search cadet trooper examination.

Great Podcast and great material on physical training in and for Law Enforcement. I am the physical training coordinator for the Indiana State Police and their recruit academy and know first hand the riggers of programing for each new academy class that comes in. Keep up the great work there in Colorado Jay Dawes and Trooper Charlie Kornhauser.
