Power Athlete Membership…Deshi Basara

Author / John

Hey PAHQ guys – thanks for the programming.  I don’t mean to be a pushy asshole, but are you going to explain the Power Athlete membership a little bit more?  Like what the the advantage of the Power Athlete programming vs. CrossFit Football programming? Is CrossFit Football going away?  I love the programming, but $20 (or $34) per month is going to be tough to manage for me.

Thanks!

JD

Power-Athlete-Community-Membership-Come-To-The-Light-CrossFit-FootballJD,

Never fear, CrossFit Football is not changing.  We launched the site in 2009 with one goal: to bring the CFFB/Power Athlete style of training to the world.  Over the last 5 years, we have traversed the world, clawed and fought to meet this goal and I believe we have accomplished our task.  Over the course of bringing this style of training to the masses there was always a desire by the community for more.  We heard it at every seminar, daily on the blog and through the countless emails sent to info, there needed to more.  And when I say “more”, I am referring to a comprehensive video library, more premium blog like what I have done on TTMJ (posts full of good information you could apply today to your training, just not just general information that was more akin to a hand job than anything).  Detailed programming, above and beyond, what is presently offered.  This would include, but not be limited to, warm ups, plyometric work, narrative for each workout with specific goals and tasks and most importantly giving insight on the bigger picture to teach the method.  At the seminars, we are asked about for a way to take advantage of on-line coaching; a place where an athlete could post their training sessions and get instant feedback via email and the forums from the coaches and community.  This community wants a Power Athlete specific place to discuss training and performance and new ways to maximize the effects of the training style.

We looked around and nothing we examined met the needs of what was asking of us.  So in true HQ fashion, we created the ultimate training experience, complete with this comprehensive daily programming with narrative, video demos to guide your movements, educational modules to fix common problems, coach the movements and guide an athlete’s nutrition, recovery and performance.

By now you realize, Power Athlete is more than just banging weights and getting sweaty.  It is a complete training system that utilizes complex movements, sprinting, metabolic conditioning, nutrition and recovery to meet needs of hard charging motherfuckers training to be the best.

With that said, lets jump into the Power Athlete experience and take you on a tour.

PAHQ-MembershipThe first level of access to the Power Athlete community is the official member.  This awards you the right to create a custom profile which will allow you to interact with other athletes and coaches and access to the PAHQ forums where information about training, nutrition and recovery will be available.  This also includes the ability to see videos and tutorials on individual basis.  This is where the magic begins and as you grow as an athlete, the community is there to support you.

PAHQ-EssentialsThe second level of access will be known as the Power Athlete Essentials.  This affords you the right to create a custom profile and interact with coaches and athletes globally via the forums.  This gives you access to premium posts and content created by Power Athlete HQ staff, contributors and myself.  For example, this would include part 3 & 4 of the Bulking Protocol and countless of other pieces of information I have been sitting on waiting for the community to come online.  And most importantly, advanced daily programming for two levels of athletes complete with narrative for each day.  This will also include what I expect out of you each day with a solid game plan on how to attack each workout.  The training with coupled with video demos so you can know exactly how each movement is performed to help you get the most out of your training.

PAHQ-ProfessionalThe third and final level of access to the Power Athlete community is called the Power Athlete Professional.  This advanced level of access will be begin with a custom profile and full access to the PAHQ forums complete with Professional section where members can ask the staff and myself questions and get instant feedback on training, nutrition and movements.

You will get access to premium posts and content and have the ability to ask specific questions to have them be addressed in Talk To Me Johnnie posts.  The Pro PA will include daily programming with narrative, videos and tutorials, exclusive discounts on merchandise, e-books, round-tables, virtual coaching and seminars.

Basically, this is full VIP access to Power Athlete program.  The only way it could get better is if you showed up Power Athlete HQ everyday and slept on my couch.

At Power Athlete HQ, we have been known to use some movie references to help get our point across, we liken this experience to Bruce Wayne climbing out of the Pit in the Dark Knight Rises; rising from the darkness and into the light.

*Just to give you a heads up, we offering introductory pricing on these packages that is well below what this would cost if you came to me for custom programming and consultation.

Too cool, guys. Will the programming for Field Strong and Big Monkey fall under the Essentials/Professional category or will those be separate offerings? You may have answered this in the latest podcast but I haven’t listened to all of it yet.

    • Luke Summers on February 28, 2014 at 10:03 pm

      @Gavin,
That programming will be available for the Essentials/Professional members.

  2. phil on February 28, 2014 at 4:42 pm

This programming is gonna be awesome. I can’t wait thank you for all the hard work guys. Just one question though will the pricing always be the same? Like if you sign up at 50 dollars will it always be 50 dollars for you.

    • Luke Summers on February 28, 2014 at 10:03 pm

All promo pricing is locked in until Feb 17, 2015. That’s PAHQ’s 2nd birthday!

  3. Mitch on February 28, 2014 at 4:46 pm

This may deserve a dick punch but just wanted to make sure I got this right. So signing up to the Power Athlete membership will give you a different program to follow than CFFB? As well as the other information mentioned above of course. If so I’m assuming it will be the same sort of format with a SWOD and DWOD?
    Thanks and sorry in advance.
    Mitch.

    • Luke Summers on February 28, 2014 at 10:04 pm

      Mitch,
Check out the Field Strong page either by clicking on the bull on the left global navigation bar, or visiting http://www.powerathletehq.com/fieldstrong to find out more.

Not gonna lie, my wife would kill me if I spent $20 a month on this (yep I’m that guy) so I am going to have to stick to the free stuff. On that note I was wondering if TTMJ was going to be phased out now?

  5. Ingo B on February 28, 2014 at 5:47 pm

Oh, so THAT’s what they were saying. Never could figure that out

  6. ecohen on February 28, 2014 at 7:11 pm

On the same ship with Bubba… Just change the wife to a girlfriend and not so deep pockets.

As I’m still going to stick with CFFB, will PAHQ/TTMJ ever be releasing free stuff again?

  7. JD on February 28, 2014 at 9:02 pm

Thanks a lot for answering my question, John! It’s going to be tight, but the Essentials sounds like something that might be too good to pass up. Maybe I’ll get a second job to support my CFFB/PA habit…

    • Luke Summers on February 28, 2014 at 10:09 pm

JD, you can figure it out. We have faith in you!

  8. Casey H on March 1, 2014 at 12:38 am

Maybe essentials membership should discount a cert. just a thought. And I’m assuming we can pay for the full year at once? Time is tight now but want the programming for when I can use It…maybe some of us 2-3 day per weekers would benefit from some official “secret squirrel” programming.

  9. Paula on March 1, 2014 at 4:58 am

LPGA?! It’s about damned time! I see others are already members. I might have missed it but how do I join?

  10. ecohen on March 1, 2014 at 6:39 am

    @Luke

I actually checked that out, but in Israel you can’t get paid for blood, bummer.
Obviously, at the end of the day for 20$/m it’s just about priorities and I’m just bitchin’ out.

But really though, will podcasts still be open to the public? Some articles?

    • Luke Summers on March 1, 2014 at 2:11 pm

Lousy Israeli blood market! I appreciate the concern, hope to see you on the site!

Power Athlete Radio will remain open to the public and free. There are other audio casts and pod casts in development that will be deployed privately.

  11. Ingo B on March 1, 2014 at 9:19 am

I plan to sell my body. It’ll be close, but should break even on most months.

  12. the dude on March 1, 2014 at 9:19 am

Will the current CFFB comments/community forum be left open…or will you be shutting that down?
    thx

    • Luke Summers on March 1, 2014 at 1:40 pm

      @Dude,
CFFB Comments will be left open, however if something has been discussed in full on the forums, we’ll be directing the conversation.

  13. Rich A on March 1, 2014 at 9:45 am

Stop teasing us guys. When can we jump into this awesome program?

    • Luke Summers on March 1, 2014 at 1:41 pm

      @Rich,
      Registration opens Monday.

  14. Dustin on March 1, 2014 at 10:33 am

I am a bit lost here, admittedly I haven’t listened to every post or podcast but it seems with all the new stuff and having to pay for better content etc that you are devaluing CFFB workouts. I put my whole team on this program and paid for the cert needless to say we are bought in, and now it feels as though I should have just paid $50 a month and not $795 for the cert. So is CFFB programming enough? Or is is field strong going to better option? Is field strong going to be free? Any info would be great?

    • Luke Summers on March 1, 2014 at 2:05 pm

      @Dustin,
      Questions first:
      1) Is CFFB programming enough?
For some, yes. For some no. What I can tell you is there are components of training field sport athletes that we do not offer on a daily basis on CFFB.com like warm ups, movement prep, skill work, plyometrics, cool down, etc. These components WILL be worked into Field Strong.

      2) Is Field Strong a better option?
Yes it is, for those who need more out of CFFB and don’t know how to fill the gaps. Now, if you attended a cert (and you have) and you walked away from the 16 – 18 hour weekend understanding the program discussed vs. that on CFFB.com, then you know how to identify and fill the holes of the programming offered CFFB.com for your team, offense/defense, skilled positions/lineman, individual player. We impart every piece of knowledge we have over the weekend onto you. You can traverse whatever taxonomy you have in terms of athletes and get even more detailed and specified with their training using programming on CFFB.com as the driver. The question is, do you have the experience and education to actually accomplish that? And even more importantly, do you have the resources (time, energy, staff)? If yes, then you’re set. If no, it may be worth making the investment to see what Field Strong is all about.

      Onto addressing some statements.

      you are devaluing CFFB workouts

No we aren’t. We are acknowledging that they are not comprehensive by design, nor have they ever been. We acknoowledged that at the seminar since it’s inception. And NOTHING is going to change with the programming methodology you find on CFFB.com. That product remains the same. If it’s working for you, then use it. We think it’s some of the best programming out there based off of experience, and feedback from our followers. What’s amazing is we can offer so much more. With that said, will CFFB.com play second fiddle to PAHQ programming? Yes it will. Solely based on Field Strong being more directed and comprehensive.

Now it feels as though I should have just paid $50 a month and not $795 for the cert

NOTHING replaces the interaction and learning opportunity of a live practical and lecture environment. IMHO the best investment you made was coming to our seminar. I know it was the best investment I made before I joined the staff. While this membership site and the content that is accompanied with it is intended to be, and will be informational and useful to folks who haven’t attended the CFFB seminar, the folks who have will enter with a calibrated perspective and be able to take a lot more from the programming, demos, and tutorials, and will use them in a different way.

      Hope that helps!

  15. Muzza on March 1, 2014 at 2:49 pm

This is going to lat flaring, trap pumping, hairy chested epic!!

I, for one, think this is a pretty small price to pay for access to a quality coaching and training resource.

Power Athlete/CFFB has left the CrossFit Journal for dead in terms of a quality resource dedicated to educating strength and conditioning coaches and power athletes (unless topless chick doing pistols on kettle bells at the beaches is the education you are after).

Only one small request. We need more Star Wars and light sabre action in the demo vids. Luke and Cali, make it so.

We appreciate all the hard work guys. I am really looking forward to getting amongst it.

  16. RMH on March 1, 2014 at 2:51 pm

Will field strong be included in the essentials, or will it only be for professional?

    • Luke Summers on March 1, 2014 at 3:25 pm

All premium programming will be available to Essentials members and any subsequent membership levels

  17. RMH on March 1, 2014 at 3:46 pm

    Awesome! Thanks!

  18. Dustin on March 1, 2014 at 9:38 pm

Luke, thx for clearing up. You guys do a great job and the cert was awesome. Part of my issue is of course time. I get my guys for about 40 minutes per day. At the seminar you gave me a 5 day plan which we started using last week and it worked well. We can easily finish the SWOD and most if not all of the DWOD whether I modify it or not. I also tend to program some auxiliary work within the SWOD that you would find in a typical college program.

Really what I need is contact with any football coaches you know currently following this program with their team. Especially those that are working within the classroom setting. Any help in getting me connected to other coaches would be great.

I look forward to see what field strong program looks like. Maybe you guys should add a forum or something for actual football coaches who use CFFB or PA or whatever the program is. Mind bottling…blades of glory reference.

    Thanks again,
    Keep up the great work.

    • Luke Summers on March 2, 2014 at 8:19 am

      Dustin,
There is a “coaches corner” forum for exactly that. And Field Strong is not a “40 minute program”, it’s 90 minutes to 2 hours of training that could be broken up throughout the day.

I would strongly encourage you to sign up for the “Official Membership” and become a part of the online community. You are not alone in wanting to meet other HS coaches who use CFFB. The reality is we do not have the time to facilitate an offline communication channel between coaches we meet across the world.

So we chose to build a credible, secure, and moderated platform for Power Athlete coaches to network across. That’s what Power Athlete Nation is all about.

  19. Chad Hamilton on March 2, 2014 at 6:45 am

    Luke,

My wife just budgeted for this, which is awesome. However, she categorized it under “recreation,” which also includes my monthly allotment of beer and chocolate malts. I don’t know, but I may be peaking at life right now.

  20. Chad Hamilton on March 2, 2014 at 6:52 am

    ^^^

That’s me — jacked on malts, beer, and life.

    • Luke Summers on March 2, 2014 at 8:20 am

What people don’t know is Chad is a 295 lb, 7′ tall giant who can palm a 30lb med ball.

  21. Kyle Kraft on March 2, 2014 at 8:37 am

You guys are some BAMFs for making all of this happen. Props.

I want the premium option and am curious – will the Field Strong programming start Monday with memberships?

    Thank you!

    • Luke Summers on March 2, 2014 at 8:50 am

      Yep. Field Strong starts tomorrow.

  22. Andrew K. on March 2, 2014 at 12:30 pm

    Been waiting for this!

Will the professional programing be individualized for the person or more in the fashion of the CFFB website. Let me clarify: are you going to be grouping the Professional clients into certain groups (e.g. fat-loss/body recomp, seasoned athletes looking for an edge in the softball league, kids getting into lifting) and then doing programming for each of those groups, or will it involve an interview, assessment, etc. for each person?

  23. Kyle on March 3, 2014 at 3:18 pm

If I sign up at the $20 is it $20 until feb of 2015? Thanks guys looks awesome.

    • Luke Summers on March 3, 2014 at 9:30 pm

      Kyle,
Membership is month to month, pricing is guaranteed until Feb 17th

  24. Drew on March 7, 2014 at 6:55 pm

Okay so deployments get in the way of stalking this site from time to time. Say I sign up for the sweet essentials package, but maybe want a 3 month period of more “focused” attention to prepare for an upcoming rugby season, deployment etc. Would getting the professional membership for those months be the way to go? you know, besides sleeping on the couch at Power Athlete HQ. Thanks
