A mindset shift for athletes and high performers ready to break through burnout.
There’s a reason your grind feels like a struggle, even when you’re doing the “right” things. Most people confuse force with power, especially in performance and personal growth. Force is raw effort. It’s white-knuckling the day, dreading the gym, and showing up because you have to. You can get results that way, but it costs you—mentally, physically, emotionally. Burnout isn’t a matter of if, it’s when.
Power is different. Power is flow. Power is the innate energy you tap when your actions align with your strengths and passion. You still work your ass off, but it doesn’t feel like punishment. Instead, it pulls you forward. It’s the feeling you get when you roll into jiu-jitsu class or throw heavy weight around the gym because you love it. It’s effort, yes—but it’s also joy.
How to Know If You’re Forcing It
Here’s the litmus test: Are you dragging yourself to perform? Watching the clock during workouts? Counting down minutes ‘til the day ends? That’s force.
Force is what you rely on when you haven’t found your why. Or when you’re ignoring it. It’s relying on willpower instead of alignment. Force can work—but it’s a grind. And that grind grinds you down.
If everything feels like a chore, it’s time to take a step back.
Ask yourself:
- Am I doing this because I think I should?
- Does this drain me, or light me up?
- Is there a better way to reach my goals that aligns with my strengths?

Find Your Flow State: Power in Action
When you stop forcing things and start aligning with your purpose, you enter flow. That’s the sweet spot where progress happens and feels good doing it.
My jiu-jitsu coach, Xande Ribeiro, calls it “the flow.” You’re fully present. You’re not resisting. You’re engaged. That’s power.
In training, in business, in life—when you find your rhythm and get clear on your mission, you become unstoppable. That doesn’t mean it’s easy. It just means you’re no longer burning calories fighting yourself.
Power isn’t passive. It’s potent. And once you unlock it, you stop pushing rocks uphill—you start building mountains.
Power in Performance and Business
This idea goes beyond the gym. Say you work 80 hours a week grinding for money. That’s force. But if you’re making money doing what you’re built for, what energizes you—then it becomes sustainable. That’s power. The work is still there, but it’s yours. You’re not acting against your nature. You’re channeling it.
And that kind of alignment? That’s where long-term growth happens.
