You Can’t Manage a Secret.
Why does Dr Cara Miller know so much about developing incredible leaders? It could be her education in the field or her years of experience. Or mayybeee it’s her seemingly innate ability to perceive and read complex systems and people. This is what truly sets her apart from other coaches, well, that and her no-bullshit approach. Turning a mountain of information and human feedback into a roadmap to success and fulfillment is Dr Cara Miller’s jam. So, pop quiz hotshot: What is your purpose and importance? If you can’t name it, then it’s likely part of the reason your organization feels muddled with misdirection. Step one: Listen to this episode.
If you consider yourself a leader in your organization, business, team, family, etc., there’s a decent chance you’ve pondered the limitations and barriers to success within that dynamic. What you may NOT have considered is that YOU are the limiting factor. It’s a concept we’ve discussed as it pertains to coaching a team, but Dr Cara Miller highlights this by saying “The founder is the limit”. Being the creator of something groundbreaking is special, but it’s just the start of a challenging process. As a leader, you see your influence in everything the light touches…but what about the dark? Where has your influence been a constraint to growth? Taking ownership of the success must be complimented with taking radical responsibility of the shortfalls. So how do you get there? GUT CHECK. If you can create an environment where people BELIEVE you when you say you encourage candid conversations, you’re well on your way to overcoming your ego. Get out of the way!
