The Old School Mentality.
This week we welcome athlete, author, and Catalyst Athletics coach, Greg Everett. This well known figure in the world of strength and conditioning believes that Olympic Weightlifting has changed dramatically – to the benefit of popularity but the detriment of old school ethics. As someone who evolved into the sport well before social media, Greg waxes nostalgic on his past experience of embracing Weightlifting as lifestyle instead of an accessory.
From the garage of Mike Burgener to his own beautiful facility, Greg talks about how he has changed with the sport to make opportunities for himself. Although not every aspect of the business is pleasurable, he is steadfast in his training principles and unapologetically opinionated. Discover why he thinks so many athletes get caught up in the trap of training like the most elite athletes in the world and why it’s not only sub optimal, it can also be counterproductive.
John and Greg catch up on all things Olympic Weightlifting and unravel the mysteries of the internet all in an hour’s time. This is episode 127.

So I wanted to listen to the recording as I like the information provided on Greg’s website. Why no positive information provide– it turned into a bitch session using off color language to complain. Yes, social media is a complete mess in terms of today’s communication model but why do you have to at the same time make a podcast that turns into a bitch session? You have tremendous knowledge to share and have people like myself turned into listen but turn it into what social media is doing. I was looking forward to learning something but instead turned it off.
Thank you for your feedback.
Not to pile on to Chris’ complaints… but I also can’t believe you all didn’t touch on Greg’s impact to the sport of Hooping:

I was lucky enough to go thru a CF Olympic weightlifting seminar in DC hosted by Greg and Aimee (many moons ago) it was a great weekend.
Now that was funny. Thanks for posting. My new sport Hooping
Chris – good luck in your new sport. But remember…
Butthurt leads to anger, anger leads to online rants, rants lead to re-tweeting, re-tweeting leads to suffering…
I thought it was a good podcast. I have already seen the “future” of Olympic lifting in this country that was discussed. Remember the last name “Maziels”. You will see at least one of them in the Olympics in the next 10-15 years.
In the past shows were posted in mp3 format. This one was posted as an mp4. Is this going to be the new standard format for the show?
This was an absolute ripper.
I will be playing this during our gyms Wednesday Active Recovery session this week…mind you, our gym is pretty bullshit-free…it will be more for affirmation purposes.
Great fucking episode.
@luke why you gotta throw shade at hockey?
it says that I cannot access the m4a file? Can someone help me out?
