The Definition of Adversity.

Brad Snyder joins us on this week’s holiday episode of Power Athlete Radio.  If the name sounds familiar, it’s because this Naval Academy grad turned Paralympic Gold Medalist has an amazing story.  After several deployments as an EOD officer, his last with a SEAL team left him blinded.  Brad suffered a blast to the face after stepping on a buried IED.  Although his facial injuries healed in relatively short order his eyes were damaged beyond repair.

Hear how Brad was able to pivot and take his personal drive and Type A personality in a different direction by revisiting his passion for swimming.  A collegiate competitor, Brad is no stranger to training, setting goals, and exceeding them.  He relies on his positive mindset and vigilant approach to maintaining perspective as a means to dominate not only the sport of swimming, but also the challenges of navigating life as a blind man.

I couldn’t think of a more inspiring discussion to cozy up to on this Christmas Day.  Brad Snyder is the epidome of drive and dedication.  Despite his humility, it’s obvious that his life’s work has been and continues to be one of selfless inspiration.

    1. Thanks @luke for finally mentioning volleyball within the context of Power Athlete training. It only took 5.9 years of nagging on my part.

    2. (36:57) – “the importance of having purpose behind everything (you) do” and “doing stuff without a purpose behind it is wasted effort” – absolute truth. I mentioned it before, but I see this A LOT in Crossfit – people are just doing things without realizing why it benefits them. You can tell by the way they execute. Good stuff
