Power Athlete coach Cali Hinzman (@cali) closes the first warm up of a long weekend in Denver Colorado with an enlightening thought for the strength coaches in attendance.

As a Strength and Conditioning coach, time is a very limited resource when working with an athlete, or even worse, a group of athletes. Time is the ever fading resource that allows us to effectively drive a training response in our athletes. All to often coaches “throw away” a large portion of a training day giving athletes scripted warm ups with one goal in mind, get them sweaty. This, my friends, is a waste time.

The “warm up” is a great time to focus on very specific training in a low stress environment to attack your athletes’ limiting factors. And better yet, it’s typically when your athletes are the MOST receptive.
