Strong Feet, Strong Butt
This week we welcome back our S&C man-crush, Cal Dietz [@CalDietz] to talk all things athletics. His insights on testing training and finding sometimes surprising results leads us down a rabbit hole of knowledge. What exactly can heart rate variability teach us? What is the true value of a VO2 max? And how can we consistently use bio feedback to produce unprecedented performance gains? Dietz delivers on college and pro athletics talk.
Among the chatter is some incredible talk about new pressure point methods used to promote nervous system repair. Dietz goes on to discuss his experience of using things like split squats with a camber bar in lieu of squatting during certain phases of training. His mad scientist evaluation is derived from monitoring cortisol and testosterone levels in his athletes. Likewise, he’s spent years manipulating rep ranges and lactic acid training duration to provoke the appropriate physiological response. The result has been a well conditioned athlete who is less susceptible to overtraining. And finally the mystery of how powerful feet are directly correlated with a big strong ass!
EMPOWER YOUR PERFORMANCE.
Cal Dietz has a ton of content floating around out there. A good place to start is his website: www.XLAthlete.com. There you can find links to his publications including several books based on building Triphasic Training and cycling it appropriately into your program. Cal also has a YouTube Channel that helps illuminate the concepts and mechanics of Triphasic training exercises. You can search the name Calvin Dietz or find the link in our show notes.
And now another installment of why you should attend the Power Athlete Symposium on December 7, 8, and 8 in Austin, Texas. This week I’d like to remind you that our speakers, such as Robb Wolf, Cara Miller and Olympian Adam Nelson, and many more…will be hanging around. You can rub elbows, or potentially lats, with some super knowledgeable folks. You can be that person who approaches them casually and corners them firing question after question, eventually and inevitably confessing something deeply personal. Live the dream at the Power Athlete Symposium.
