Smarter Strength
Fixing a broken athlete is tough. But, it’s even more tough when they are able to mask their shit mechanics with compensatory talent. Ingrid Marcum [@theironvalkyrie] will be the first to tell you that she rose to the highest levels of gymnastics, bobsledding, and Olympic Weightlifting doing just that. Hear how she trained through injury after injury with success over the years, but, at great cost. Now she’s dedicated to educating coaches and athletes so they can thrive and continue to crush their competitors for the long haul.
In this episode, Ingrid takes us through a few diagnostics that will help improve coordination and drive intentionality into your training. As she explains, intention and purpose can be indicators that an athlete is properly motivated. When asked to speak on the topic of motivation, Ingrid shares an interesting perspective about reaching a certain level in competition. According to her, there comes a time where, although motivation has not wavered, the anxiety and stress of competing has significantly decreased. She attributes this to years of stress inoculation and finally accepting that the only thing you can master is that which you can control.
Finally, Tex and Ingrid jam on the common fascination with coordination. Hear how the two discuss what they feel is an often overlooked and undefined component of athleticism.
EMPOWER YOUR PERFORMANCE.
