You Can’t Rush Biology

The MF ACL. It’s the achilles heel of the knee. And I know what you’re thinking,..”Hasn’t the ACL horse been beaten enough?” The answer is NO! If you’re going to listen to just one comprehensive podcast on how ACL injuries develop, occur, and affect an athlete mentally and physically, THIS is IT. Dr Tim Hewett [@Hewett1Tim] is such an incredible force in the ACL world that his research and publications are some of the most renowned in the field. Hear about recent studies that connect concussions to ACL injuries and ACL injuries to performance mindset. Even if physio isn’t your jam, every coach kneeds to have a leg up with this information.

When it comes to repairing a torn ACL, there are a few methods used. Often cadaver (dead people) parts are utilized or in many cases, surgeons suggest harvesting some of your own bits to do the job. Unfortunately, as explained by this week’s guest Dr Tim Hewett [@Hewett1Tim], the hamstring is often the go-to source. Hewett describes this as “robbing Peter to pay Paul” aka it’s bad. REAL bad. In our talk with the doc he explains in detail not only HOW the ACL tears but the function of the precious hamstring and glut in prevention and recovery. If you work with athletes and they have legs, you owe it to them to educate yourself. Listen NOW!
