Get your mind right: food for thought
This week’s episode is quite literally, mind blowing. As per usual, Power Athlete brings you the latest research from experts in the field in order to Empower Your Performance. Dr. David Perlmutter joins us to talk about the relationship between brain function and nutrition. He is the author of several books including Grain Brain and Brain Maker which help us, the average jamoke, understand the correlation between food and and the brain.
Curious as to how gluten affects the hamster on a wheel that is your thinking machine? Dr. Perlmutter unravels the mystery linkage between mouth, gut, and dome. Also, everyone wants to what, when, and how much to consume to keep performance at optimal levels. Hear about the thousands of years of practice that humans have had in identifying tasty foods. What was once a survival mechanism to choose nutrient dense fruits has now turned into an ever available and insatiable appetite for the almighty sugar – arguably one of the biggest human health downfalls of the modern age.
One thing is certain, Dr. Perlmutter will be providing more than enough food for thought to chew on.
EMPOWER YOUR PERFORMANCE.
It’s time to break a mental sweat, people. As much as we love to work on that bikini body I hope everyone is feeling as inspired as I am to eat my way towards a sexier lady brain. Follow Dr. Perlmutter on Facebook under his name or head directly to his website, www.drperlmutter.com to see his blog and purchase publications, including, a cook book.

During the podcast (I’m pretty sure it was this one anyway) the topic of too much protein while in ketosis. How much is too much? What could be considered optimal? Thank you.
Rodney, it varies from person to person. You’ll need a monitor to figure out what your levels are.

Sorry but I had to comment on this.
Dr Perlmutter suggests NFL players dont need any more than 60-80g of total carbs per day?
He has clearly either not watched a game, or tried to run sprints while on a ketogenic diet.
have you ever seen any NFL players on a ketogenic diet?
He also mentions kenyan marathon runners not “carb loading”?
I may be wrong, but I’m sure their diet is quite high in carbohydrates, and they are the ones winning races?
